The LW5 Spirit Walk Honoring the Legacy of Dennis Banks, led by Darla Banks, precisely 6 years to date later, after her dad completed the first part of the Longest Walk 5 in 2016!
All throughout this walk, in every community somehow, some way the theme has been roses!
We finished this Sunday evening at Curt & Shelia's with a great meal, good songs, lots of laughter & beautiful stories. We learned a whole lot today
The circle continues to grow!
The circle continues to grow!
After church service, we all walked to the local cemetery where the owners of a brewery bulldozed and carried out truckloads to the local dump after somehow paying off the county and it was done on Veterans day!
So while we stood across the field from them as they looked at us we stood praying & singing. This case is in the court system now and they have a GoFundMe to help with the cost to give these ancestors justice. (I will try to post the link when I get it). We left with trust that our songs and prayers were heard for Creator's help in this matter

Thank you Thoroughfare community! Today we met, communed & walked in Thoroughfare .
Spectacular evening at Rivendell! We started at 7ish and stayed til 10ish. We all got to share with our recovery family about our journey.
We got invited to a monastery to celebrate the life of their leader who built the Wat Lao Buddhavong temple. We got there before 10 and it wasn't over until about 5:30pm. We learned a lot today
Sunbury PA. Right next to the Susquehanna River, the historian told the whitewashed version of their 250 year history & we talked to the community about the horrific history (but in a good way where it could be received) and we all did ceremony to restore the balance in our universe.
The Carlisle Indian School (CIS) cemetery began in January of 1880, four months after the opening of the school, when the remains of two recently deceased students were interred near an existing Army burial ground on the school campus. Between 1880 and 1918, at least 186 individuals were interred in this burial ground. These interments included Carlisle Indian School students, prisoners of war held captive at the school, and the child of an Indian School teacher. These graves were marked with a combination of wooden and stone grave-markers.
We got to Virginia but not for long, after resting a bit, we were on our way to Pennsylvania to do more work. Thank You Sheila And Curt Hansen. Jessica Sylvia, Shawn Harrah & kiddos came over with a wonderful dinner for us after our trip to PA. We had a fantastic family evening! Thank you!
Thanks to the Hannibal powwow organizers for hosting us this weekend. We got to share our message to many here. The most important work was
hearing the trauma stories, sharing tears & being able to carry the prayers with us as we walk out tomorrow. It was a very good weekend
We weren't sure what to expect when we arrived but our circle got bigger & better! By that, we mean we met some AMAZING souls and our family got bigger.

Marrietta and Sistersville. Quandranaou, Sacra Via, Ohio River Museum, Capitolium & Conus Mound. Talk about doing some of the heaviest spiritual work ever. These were once the Capitol places of our Woodlands people & we're making sure to honor them as such even though all that was in them isn't there now. The real work is forgiving the unforgivable.
Thank You Rachael Thunder, Kentucky AIM and Sarah and her beautiful family who made us feel right at home while in Columbus!
Thank you for all the Support at Serpent Mounds and Soaring Eagle Camping! Thank you Jeffrey and Delcey Wison and Beverly McKenzie! Thank you INDIGENOUS CHEF food truck of the Mohawk Nation, Carey and Kris for the amazing meals you provided for us! Thank you Summer Soltice Locust Grove, Ohio.

Spirit Walk 2022
We would like to introduce and invite you to join us on the LW5 Spirit Walk for Domestic Violence from Leech Lake, MN, to Washington, DC.
Darla Banks, the daughter of Dennis Banks and Spirit Walk founder, lost her beautiful daughter Rose to domestic violence. This was a significant part of the Longest Walk 5.
The Spirit Walk is a continuation of outreach to communities. We continue raising awareness, learning, and sharing information. We know many programs address these issues and that we can all learn from one another.
The Longest Walk 5 was the longest and the final Walk organized by Dennis Banks. In 2016 TLW5 began its journey to "Call an End to Drug Abuse and Domestic Violence." The walkers distributed anonymous surveys at gatherings and forums to present a tangible data source demonstrating the impact of drug abuse and domestic violence on reservations across the nation. The Walk traveled to hundreds of communities crossing over 13000 miles. TLW5 is archived in the National Museum of the American Indian blog. We were honored to present our findings at the American Public Health Association Conference following the first segment of the Walk.
Families are stepping forward and voicing the despair that has come upon them because of drug abuse or domestic violence. We have given voice to the voiceless.
This Walk is a significant undertaking. We need financial support from Tribal Nations and people of goodwill throughout the world. Please help us complete this critical mission!
